Guinea Pig Alliance

What is the Guinea Pig Alliance?

Guinea Pig Alliance (GPA) brings together the expertise of the GPAW partners who have successfully campaigned to improve the welfare of pet guinea pigs for the past 4 years.

Led by Burgess Pet Care, the GPA comprises the RSPCA, Wood Green The Animals Charity, Blue Cross and Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare.

Mission Statement & Values

The Guinea Pig Alliance (GPA) is the trusted voice for guinea pig welfare, which draws on the combined knowledge of a coalition of experts who have, for the past 4 years, campaigned effectively through Guinea Pig Awareness Week (GPAW) to improve the lives of pet guinea pigs.

The formation of the GPA reflects the need to establish an on-going dialogue that ensures guinea pig welfare remains high on the agenda year-round. Members of the GPA are committed to raising awareness of the five key welfare needs of pet guinea pigs among owners.

Recognising that guinea pigs are one of the UK’s most owned, but least understood, animals, the GPA is determined to build on the profound and positive campaigning, which 4 years of GPAW has already achieved and ensure that the UK’s pet guinea pigs are able to lead happy and healthy lives.

The 5 Welfare Needs Of Guinea Pigs

The aim of GPA is to give current and future guinea pig owners the knowledge and information to be able to meet the five welfare needs of their guinea pigs. By meeting these needs, you can help keep your piggies happy and healthy. Click on the icons below to discover more about each theme.
